LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship begins Thursday...Ko returns to action

After a hot stint in South Korea, the U.S. Women's Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour continues in Malaysia this week.

The LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship ($3 million purse) will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (par-72, 6,536 yards) starting Sept. 24.

This is the third stop on the Asian Swing, following the Buick LPGA Shanghai in China from Oct. 10-13 and the BMW Ladies Championship at Seowon Hills Course at Seowon Valley Country Club in Paju from Oct. 17-20.

The tournament will be followed by the Toto Zuffan Classic in Japan from Nov. 31 to Dec. 3, before returning to the United States for three events to conclude the season.

The tournament will feature 78 players competing in four days of uncut play.

There will be 10 South Koreans in the field, including Hae-ran Ha, Jin-jin Ko, Anna Rin An, Hee-young Yang, Hye-jin Choi, Ji-eun Shin, Jin-hee Lim, Jin-hee Im, So-mi Lee, Arim Kim, and Yoo-jin Sung.

The highest-ranked South Korean women's golfer in the world (No. 6), Ko Jin-young, will be returning to action for the first time in nearly two months.

Ko is returning to action after being sidelined for shoulder surgery at the FM Championship, which concluded earlier this month, 메이저사이트 where she finished runner-up in a playoff with Hae Ran Hae.

Ko, who has 15 career victories on the LPGA Tour, having won every single year since 2017, hasn't won since the Cognizant Founders Cup in May of last year.

This season, he played in just 14 events and posted six top-10 finishes.

Going winless down the stretch of the season, she is on track to finish the year without a win for the first time since joining the LPGA Tour, so it will be interesting to see how a well-rested Ko fares on her return.

Others will be looking to build on their strong showing at the BMW Championship at Anbang.

Sung Yoo-jin and Choi Hye-jin, who finished tied for fourth at the BMW Championship, Hae-ran Hae, who finished tied for sixth, and Lim Jin-hee, who finished tied for eighth, will all be in action.

Of particular interest will be the bid for a second win of the season from Hae-ran Hae-ran, who is currently third in the CME Globe Race standings (2,369.392 points), fourth in the Player of the Year standings (106 points) and fifth in the prize money ($2,383,312), making her the most dominant Korean driver this season.

World No. 7 Celine Boutier (FRA) will be looking for her second straight title.

Boutier, the inaugural champion at this event last year after playing the second-longest nine-player playoff in LPGA Tour history with Gino Thittitjer (THA), is ready to defend her title after finishing second at the BMW Championship, one stroke behind Hannah Green (AUS).

Tietjens, who leads the field in stroke average this season (69.78), will also be in action, looking to avenge last year's extra-round loss.

Greene, who lifted her third trophy of the season at the BMW Championship and jumped to fifth in the world rankings, will be looking to build on her momentum and win back-to-back titles.
